Summary: | ARCCHAD Project – Supporting Small-scale Farmers in Tackling the Challenges of Climate Change Alternative solutions for small-scale farmers to adapt to climate change, considering complex economic, environmental and social factors, extended throughout the entire value chain. Support Programme: Interreg IPA VI-A Hungary–Serbia Programme (2021–27) Project ID: Interreg IPA VI-A – HUSRB/23R/11/008 Short Project Title: ARCCHAD Project Partners: Lead Beneficiary: KDMFÜ Central Danube Development Agency Nonprofit Ltd. (HU) Project Partners:
Total Project Budget: EUR 323,378.00, of which EUR 274,871.30 is EU contribution Implementation Period: 24 months, from 01.06.2024 to 31.05.2026 Short Project Description The ARCCHAD project focuses on the challenges related to agricultural actors most at risk from climate change. Farms run by small-scale producers have a deep historical heritage and traditions on both sides of the border. Family farms play a key role in sustaining rural areas. However, their traditional agricultural methods and marketing strategies are no longer effective, as they also have to face the negative effects of climate change. The lack of knowledge about technological, societal, and market advancements in both border regions highlights the need for cross-border initiatives. ARCCHAD proposes an innovative, multi-stakeholder approach. Target Groups The main target groups in both countries face similar problems, and the proposed solutions offer alternatives for border regions. The primary target group is small-scale farmers, who are also the main beneficiaries of the project. In addition to awareness-raising activities targeting consumers/citizens living in the border area, other relevant organizations will also be involved. Activities The first task of the project is to select model farms – two in Hungary and two in Serbia – that are open to introducing new technological, market, and societal solutions. Following the coordination workshops, an assessment of available agricultural digital service providers and solutions will take place. The needs of small-scale farms for agri-digital tools will be assessed, and the selected solutions will be tested and evaluated. Results will be compiled in a handbook and demonstrated at the model farms. The consortium will jointly prepare a local food system study in the cross-border region, providing insight into current food chains and infrastructures. A study visit will be organized for 20 Serbian and 20 Hungarian farmers to learn about innovative tools and complementary farming activities based on Austrian best practices. Partners will jointly develop and implement capacity-building trainings for farmers and consumers. Innovative approaches include complementary farming activities and solidarity-based food supply chains. The training will cover market and social innovations, climate resilience strategies, and experimental farming techniques. Project results will be summarized in an animated video. A web-based multifunctional platform, provided by the Lead Partner, will present all project outcomes and their relevance to sustainability goals. Key Results The ARCCHAD project will achieve 3 main results:
Implementation Locations ARCCHAD activities will be carried out in the cities of the consortium members: Kiskőrös, Kecskemét, Senta, and Novi Sad. The exact locations of the model farms will be determined during the implementation phase. The aim of the ARCCHAD project is to support small-scale farmers in building their capacity and reducing losses caused by climate change in the border regions. The studies, training programmes, and online/offline events developed jointly by the 2 Hungarian and 2 Serbian partners will offer alternative solutions for small-scale farmers. Main Themes:
Thanks to cross-border cooperation, small-scale farmers will be better prepared to face the challenges of climate change. |

Summary: | Gardener Adventurer is a little squirrel living in a garden, who, in the first phase of the program’s development, introduced the visiting children to the plants of his habitat – the garden. In the continuation of the program, under this current project, Gardener Adventurer also presents the animals living in the garden, using his unique methodology, as part of the program titled Gardener Adventurer – Wild Animal Fun. The Association of Gardeners from Senta, with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia, has developed two school garden-related programs in previous years: in 2021, the School in the Garden, Garden in the School program was implemented at the Petőfi Sándor Primary School in Bečej, targeting upper primary school students; in 2022, the Learn, Grow, Create program was carried out at the Bratstvo Primary and Secondary School in Bečej, targeting horticultural high school students with special educational needs. In 2023, for preschoolers and lower primary school students, the bilingual online program Gardener Adventurer was developed, in which the main character presents the plants in the garden to the visiting children through an interactive game. In 2024, as a continuation of the Gardener Adventurer program, the existing content was expanded and enriched with the introduction of animals living in the garden, in the framework of the Gardener Adventurer – Wild Animal Fun program. In the 21st century, alongside the real world, virtual presence has also become part of children’s lives, so excluding these tools from the educational system is not advisable. These tools must find their place in education and become part of the learning process. It is also important to highlight that the Hungarian and Serbian parts of the program are not mirror translations, which makes it suitable for learning either the Hungarian or the Serbian language. The development and implementation of the program were supported by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia. |

Summary: | Gardener Adventurer program: https://elearning.easygenerator.com/1b24f255-063d-4342-ae92-e81617e4a259/#/login The goal of the Gardener Adventurer program is to introduce preschool and early primary school children, through an interactive game, to gardening activities, the plants and animals found in the garden, as well as the possibilities of environmentally conscious farming. The Association of Gardeners from Senta, with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia, developed two school garden-related programs in previous years:
The main task of education in institutions is the transfer of knowledge, and as children acquire this knowledge year by year, their understanding expands. The program allows for the integration of real-life observation-based learning and digital education, thereby creating a learning environment in which today’s children feel comfortable and motivated, thus increasing the effectiveness of knowledge transfer. The interactive content developed within the Gardener Adventurer program does not only associate each plant or animal in the garden with informative texts or images but also establishes correlations between subjects and areas of knowledge. The development and implementation of the program were supported by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia. Gardener Adventurer in the media: |

Summary: | Learn, grow, create (HU): https://elearning.easygenerator.com/9d65dfcb-ab62-45b5-8274-3cb711b4a2d3/ Learn, Grow, Create! Nowadays, agriculture is not considered one of the most attractive fields among young people, yet it is the sector that can provide a means of subsistence even under extreme circumstances (reduced work capacity, pandemic-induced isolation, rural living conditions, social disadvantage, etc.). One of the goals of the project is to create educational material tailored to the needs of students with special educational needs, making the science of growing kitchen garden plants both understandable and appealing to them. The Bratstvo Primary and Secondary School in Bečej has successfully established a student garden, where it involves students in practical activities through innovative methods. Within this current project, theoretical educational content has been prepared for the school’s secondary-level students, which will be complemented with hands-on exercises and playful quiz questions. The educational material is digitally available in both Hungarian and Serbian languages. As a precursor to this project, the School in the Garden, Garden in the School initiative was realized at the Petőfi Sándor Primary School in Bečej. It was highly successful and is now also used with great enthusiasm by the students of the Bratstvo School. The development and implementation of the program were supported by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia. |

Summary: | PefiGarden Hu: https://elearning.easygenerator.com/502e4068-34e9-4f77-acf4-26be87ab326a/ The idea behind the School in the Garden, Garden in the School project stemmed from the fact that children in the 21st century spend minimal time in nature and devote very little attention to understanding natural phenomena. While the virtual realm has its advantages, numerous disadvantages have also been observed—particularly in areas such as speech development, fine motor skills, and physical movement. It is also crucial to recognize that today’s children can no longer be fully educated using only traditional pedagogical methods. It is therefore advisable to apply alternative educational approaches to motivate the target group. This includes the use of project-based methods, the application of Freinet’s pedagogical principles, group work, and a focus on competence development. The Gardeners’ Association of Senta developed this program to present and model the implementation of these approaches. The goal of the School in the Garden, Garden in the School project is to make the theoretical knowledge acquired by primary school students in natural sciences and biology classes practically applicable. It is also important to highlight that, in addition to the Petőfi Sándor Primary School, teachers from the Bratstvo Primary and Secondary School will also be involved in implementing the project. These educators work with children who are living with disabilities or in socially disadvantaged situations, and for them, this activity will serve as a form of psychological revitalization as well. The development and implementation of the program were supported by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia. |

Summary: | Our project’s research and demonstration work highlighted the advantages of farm- and rural-based agriculture, the potential of environmentally focused farming, and the opportunities for certifying and marketing products obtained through modern and eco-friendly agrotechnology in a healthy environment. We selected farms in Hungary and Vojvodina as central locations for our project activities, where, using the project’s budget, we established modern, environmentally friendly, and marketable production systems. The products generated were certified and labeled, then introduced to the market. We examined how rural farming could be made more economically viable in different economic contexts (Hungary – EU, Vojvodina – non-EU). For the implementation of the project, we selected three farms on each side of the border, where more than 25 experts conducted assessments and developments. Activities:

Summary: | A Vajdaság, mint Szerbia északi területén lévő tartománya, földrajzi szempontból egy egységet alkot Magyarország Dél-Alföldi Régiójával. A Vajdaság tápanyagokban gazdag és jó vízgazdálkodású csernozjom talaja a mezőgazdaság tekintetében Európa legjobb termőhelyi adottságát jelenti. Az elmúlt évtizedek kedvezőtlen gazdaságpolitikai folyamatai az ottani gazdálkodókat Európa fejlett országaihoz képest ennek ellenére jelentős hátrányba sodorták. Cél, hogy pályázati támogatással a “Szegedi Folyamathoz” illeszkedően a tudomány és az oktatás eszközével a délvidéki gazdálkodók e hátrányát a lehetőségeknek megfelelően megszűntessük, illetve erőteljesen mérsékeljük.
